My name is Gavin Lane. I was born on January 21st 2002. During the early years of my life I grew up in Orange, NJ. I’d say when I turned eight my family and I moved to Newark. I’ve been living here ever since. For most of my life I never knew what I wanted to do for a living. I would say random professions that popped into my head whenever someone would ask but I never seriously thought I could do those jobs, like being a doctor or police officer. It wasn’t until high school that I finally figured out what I wanted to do. I joined a youth group that would shoot videos and edit. Being behind a camera felt right I knew this was a career I wanted to pursue. I applied to Montclair State University and was accepted. My major is TV Production and Digital Media. my academic goals are to do well in all my classes. I want to break old habits like procrastination so I can turn my work in on time and I also want to learn new skills. I was able create these goals in my new student seminar class, there I learned about what S.M.A.R.T goals were and how to make them. What I’m doing right now to build my personal brand is joining clubs at my school and meeting new people, making connections.

Originally one of my main interests was to become a video game designer I love video games however once I found out how complex it was to make them I became a bit intimidated and dropped the idea. I also wanted to be an author at one point because I love to write but I never thought my writing was good enough. When I joined the youth group I mentioned earlier and when I used a video camera for the first time that was when I that I had found my passion. I had the intention to tell a story with all 3 of those interests. I have created multiple videos with the my youth group back in high school but more recently I was apart of the crew for a digital series that was created by the Video Production club at my school. The series is called Major Problems and I helped with the audio and I also was the boom mic operator.

I’m standing next to the President of the of the Video Production Club, Dillon Hoffman. I’m doing the audio while he is operating the camera.

I love tv and movie so my dream job would be to either be a cameraman for a big tv show or to be a director for a big tv show. To work towards my professional goals right now I’m learning new skills and gaining experience. I know I have much to learn and joining the Video Production Club was a no brainer, The people there are very nice and create great videos. They’ve taught me so much already and I can’t wait to take what I’ve learned and use it to pursue my career in the media industry.

In order to reach my goals in College and beyond I need to have grit. Grit to me is having the drive to strive for success no matter what. I wouldn’t say I’m gritty enough yet but I’m definitely going to change that. I know what I want to do and I have the drive to do it I know that I can do more. To get to my dream job I’m going to make sure that I make strong connections with the people I work with and I’m going to make sure I can create the best product possible when I’m making videos.
